We commence our collection between 08:00 and 08:30 from any location in Windhoek. Windhoek, nestled amidst mountains, requires us to traverse both the Eros Mountains and the Khomas Hochland Range. As we journey through this magnificent terrain, we descend from the central plateau to the grassy desert savannah. A pit stop at Solitaire for fuel and, perhaps, afternoon tea precedes our onward journey to the lodge. Our goal is to reach the destination in the early afternoon, with a planned sundowner drive later.
The Namib Desert Lodge is nestled beneath impressive fossilized dunes, offering a breathtaking encounter with the ancient desert. The lodge features two swimming pools and a waterhole for a delightful stay.
Sossusvlei, situated in the picturesque Namib-Naukluft National Park, showcases the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib set against a backdrop of clear blue skies. These unique dunes, reaching almost 400 meters, rank among the tallest globally. They come alive in the morning and evening light, attracting photography enthusiasts worldwide. Sossusvlei is also a habitat for various desert wildlife, including oryx, springbok, ostrich, and diverse reptiles. Visitors can ascend 'Big Daddy,' one of Sossusvlei's towering dunes, and explore Deadvlei, a white clay pan adorned with ancient trees.
